Every Hitty deserves a special dolly, and this button baby makes the perfect gift for any beloved Hitty. This dolly is super fun and easy to make, yet it adds a touch of creative zaniness that is sure to please any person!
To get started, you will need some 24 gauge wire, a 1 inch wooden heart, 5 buttons (2 for hands, 2 for feet and one for head) and some chenille wire (for the legs). You’ll also need a tiny drill bit to drill tiny holes into the wood.
First, drill holes in the wooden heart, where you wish to place the arms and legs.
Next, wrap your wire around a large sewing needle to create a 1 1/4″ “spiral” spring for the arms.
Tie the spiral to the armhole in the heart, and attach the button hands on the other end by crossing the wire through the buttonholes. Twist behind the button and cut off the end piece using sharp scissors.
Attach the second arm in the same manner.
Next, cut the fuzz off the end of your chenille wire till there’s about 1 inch of “clean” wire.
Wrap the wire in the leg hole, take the chenille down through the button, back up through the button, then wrap around top of leg once, cutting off from behind the leg. Your leg should be about 2 inches long.
Create the second leg in the same manner.
Here’s your button baby with both arms and legs attached.
Next, drill a hole in the center top of the heart for the neck piece. String 2 pieces of wire through the hole, then fold in half and upwards so that you’ll have 4 total pieces of wire in all.
Run the wire through the button, then wrap the excess wire down the neck, cutting off excess wire once you reach the wooden piece. Your button baby is now completed!
