This Hitty hat will fit the tiniest Hitty head, up to a Raikes Hitty head when crocheted with size 10 thread and hook. It has beading elastic at the crown to allow for “stretch” to fit just about any Hitty’s head.
Pattern:
A Cluster: 3 dc, 3 ch
Note: Clusters are crocheted in the spaces between clusters, the 3 ch areas.
First Row: CH 4, join to form a ring, *CH 2, DC 1, DC 1 CH 3 in ring*.
Between * and * counts as the first cluster, each row of clusters will begin like this.
Crochet 5 more clusters in ring. Join with slip stitch.
Second Row: Crochet 2 clusters in first space (begin first cluster with 2 CH counting as first DC), 1 cluster in next space, around for a total of 9 clusters. Join with slip stitch.
Third Row: Crochet 2 clusters in the previous rows single cluster spaces, and only one cluster in the previous rows double cluster spaces. Join with slip stitch.
Fourth Row: Crochet a cluster in every space around. Join with Slip Stitch.
Fifth Row: Beginning of crown. SC around the crown, with 2 SCs in each open space, and 1 SC in each previous DC. Join with Slip Stitch, CH 1.
Sixth Row: SC 1 in each SC around. Join with Slip Stitch, CH 1.
Seventh Row: Crochet a Cluster in each SC. Join with Slip Stitch.
Eight Row: Crochet a cluster in each space from previous row.
Ninth Row: Crochet a cluster in each space from previous row.
The hat is now completed, but to create it where it’ll fit snugly, one should weave beading elastic around the crown, by going over and under the SC posts in the last row of SCs. Tie off the elastic, and dab a tiny dot of super glue to strengthen its hold.
